The North Devon Coast was designated an AONB in 1959 and is comprised of two defined Heritage Coasts and covers approximately 171 sq. km. The Hartland Heritage Coast and the North Devon Heritage Coast together with the North Devon Biosphere Reserve make up one of the finest 'Protected Landscapes' in England.
North Devon Coast
This site is aimed at those people who want to understand more about the technical issues involved in running the AONB. We have already added our draft Management Strategy for the period 2009-14 with an on-line survey for your comments. Over the coming months and years we will conduct more surveys as the need arises.
North Devon AONB Cultural Trails
Discover some of Devon's hidden gems. In 2009 North Devon and South Devon AONB's jointly produced a series of 16 Cultural Trails, to help you get out there, enjoy and learn more about the landscapes around you.
Small Grants Fund for Sustainable Development
We are pleased to announce that the fund for 2011-12 is now open for applications.
We receive this money from Defra because the Coast is designated AONB and our partnership hopes to distribute around £40,000 in 2011 to support projects on the North Devon Coast. To qualify, projects must benefit landscape, wildlife or heritage or develop environmentally friendly ways of working with our AONB coastal parishes.
We expect grants to be £5000 or less but exceptional projects may get a larger award. Projects must have some matched funding but we can grant up to 75% of the project costs (50% for local authority funded organisations) .
Before you start, ask yourself, will your project do the following?
Further the North Devon AONB's purposes
Have the support and involvement of communities within the North Devon AONB
Bring people together in partnerships to tackle problems
Demonstrate best practice
Be completed by the end of January 2012
