2010 International Year of Biodiversity North Devon Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
Braunton Burrows and it's surrounding coastline were declared Britain's first UNESCO Biosphere reserve in November 2002. The Burrows is one of the largest expanses of sand dunes in Britain and is of international importance because of the diversity and abundance of the rare flora.

The Biosphere Reserve has Braunton Burrows at it's core but stretches out to include Braunton Marshes and Great Field, Croyde Dunes, Northam Burrows, the Taw Torridge Estuary and Lundy Island. These sites are being managed to incorporate nature conservation as an integral part of man's activities to retain this beautiful landscape.

Braunton Burrows

Thanks are due to Christie Estates, Devon Wildlife Trust, R.S.P.B. and other landowners for permitting access over their land.
